Dear New Who writers:
(Yes, even you, Moffat)
We get that dropping everything to run off with a strange man is a bad idea. Even if he's a time traveller who promises to get you back 5 minutes before you left. Really, we do. But the thing is, it's not likely to happen to any of us, so it's - get this - a fantasy. We like to pretend it could, and imagine ourselves in the place of the companion, even though we would never do such a thing ourselves.
We want to enjoy the fantasy of seeing exotic places, meeting strange people, and blowing them up. Sorry, that was Ace. We do not want the mums, boyfriends, best friends, grandpas, or whoever else you can dig up to lay a guilt trip on our avatar. We do not want to keep coming back to contemporary Britain - we might even like a companion who isn't from contemporary Britain. Really, it can work - see Jamie, Zoe, Susan, Nyssa, Victoria...
I was hoping that we'd be spared this with Amy, seeing as she's an orphan and her aunt wasn't even much of a presence in her life when she was seven, but no. She's one day off from a wedding - while travelling in a time machine, so "one day off" is flexible. Let her (and us) have some fun.

Of course this is the reason I don't even like the Sarah Jane Adventures. "Ordinary life is the biggest adventure of all" is not a message I am interested in hearing...
